I know Sasha from the CS program at BYU. We both graduated in 1997. He probably doesn't remember me, because he was definitely more vocal in class and among the students than I was.

Married to Teresa with 3 kids: Anders (4), Kristian (9), and Zoe (12).

Fluent in Danish, but there is obviously very little need for that.

Did hills with the group. Showed up early at 6 and did a few miles before 6:30. Then we did our usual 7.5 miles with hill sprints. Good workout.

Trying to get back on top of blogging so I can start getting serious about my running this year. I have my first "serious" race coming up in 2 weeks- the Moab Red Hot 50k.

This morning, I met early with 5 others at 6am and did 5 miles. Then we met up with another 12 or so and did 14 miles in and around the Holladay area. Pushed it late in the run with a couple tempo miles at marathon pace. Nothing too crazy. I was focusing more on nutrition and avoiding fatigue. I felt great at the end.

Did a 7.5 mile loop in the early AM up to the Draper temple and back. Stopped at the equestrian center for a restroom break, but pushed it pretty good otherwise. Felt great.

I didn't meet the group for hills this evening. Instead, I came home early to run in the sun. I had to watch my youngest son at 7 while my daughter & wife went to the gym. Hit some of the lower trails out by south mountain. It was a little slow starting out due to the Pilates class in the morning, but felt good in the second half.

Ya, I was trying to add up my weekly miles after we talked on Saturday. I think I've been all over the place. I figured the blog would help my confidence and make me realize that I've got decent weekly miles, even with the pilates/yoga/spin classes. I don't think I can push out any more miles without dropping some classes due to time constraints, so maybe 50 is my magic weekly number.

Emigration in the morning with the crew. Walter and I pushed it good the last 3 miles, ending with a nice tempo pace. My guess is just under 6-minute miles.

Moab Red Hot 55k

I planned on pushing it hard on this race, and had some high hopes. Even though my weekly mileage was kind of low, my overall fitness was good. I had some need for some new shoes, so I ordered the new Hokas. That ended up being a decent choice in terms of saving my legs, but the terrain wasn't ideal for Hokas...

I started out running pretty well and feeling good. I was up towards the front through the first climb, the several miles of flat, and the second climb to the lookout around mile 10. I flew on the downhill and got to aid station 2 at mile 13 in record time. After that aid station, I was keeping a fast pace on the rolling hills and hit a rock wrong on my right foot. My ankle rolled, and it was one of those rolls that you can't just run off. I had to wait a couple minutes and limp it off, then I tried to run. I could run a couple steps, but then the pain would shoot through the ankle. This part of the run wasn't bad terrain, so I made it to the next aid station at mile 17 without too much trouble. A guy there taped me up pretty well, and I felt good enough to continue. Unfortunately, the terrain turns again to something nasty around mile 19 and doesn't get better until 28. Those 9 miles were spent mostly walking, and mostly in pain. I got passed too many times to count, but finally reached mile 28 in good spirits knowing that I could run much of the last 5. That proved to be the case, but I was pretty sore from compensating for the ankle, and my pace the last 5 wasn't much better than 8 min/mile. I finished at about 5:45, which was acceptable to me. Hopefully, my ankle will heal itself on the road and I can try the shoes again on some better trail terrain.
